This session addressed sources of air pollution, specifically fine particles (PM2.5), and how it is linked to carbon dioxide and climate change (focusing on transport). Students were organised into groups of five and built air pollution sensors in groups for around thirty minutes. This included a screen, battery pack, wires, computer boards and two sensors.

Students were able to test the sensors in their classrooms, they took their sensors around the school for 30 minutes to measure different areas, to see what CO2 and PM2.5 are like indoors and outdoors. They recorded the levels in different locations. When we returned, we discussed the different levels they observed and what might have caused them to be higher or lower.
