This week, the Green Schools Committee celebrated ‘Water Action Week’ as part of its campaign to win its second Green flag in water conservation next year. The committee ran a poster/poem/song competition all week, and the winners will be announced next week.

Furthermore, the committee collaborated with Class Heaney in the third year to lead a powerful initiative, the 6km ‘Walk for Water’ Campaign. This involved several students from the first and second years walking 6km around the Porchfield while carrying 6kg of weight. The walk aimed to bring to light the daily struggle of many women and children in the developing world who have to cover this distance to access water.

Lastly, the committee organized a thrilling 1st Year Water Relay Competition. Teams were awarded points based on their speed and the amount of water they retained in their buckets. The competition was fierce, but Class Roche emerged as the champion. They can now eagerly anticipate a pizza party for their class in the upcoming weeks!

Finally, many thanks to TY Class Muinín for picking up litter on the banks of the Boyne today and to everyone else who participated in activities this week!
