The U15 (2010) boys soccer team kicked off their Cup campaign with a hard-earned 2-1 victory over St. Joseph’s CBS, Drogheda, on Wednesday, October 2nd, at the MDL grounds, Navan. The team dominated the first half, with two well-executed goals from Trim Celtic’s centre-forward, Conor Hassett. The first goal came from good build up play and a precise through ball by winger, Oran Conneely, while the second followed a similar pattern, with Player of the Match, attacking midfielder, Luke Lynagh, assisting Conor for his second goal.
However, the second half started poorly for Boyne, as they conceded almost immediately after the kickoff. As the half progressed and the Drogheda side pressed, tactical adjustments were made, with Boyne shifting to a five-player defence, which proved effective.
Near the very end of the game, substitute centre forward, Ronan Murray came close to scoring, but his super effort was denied by an excellent save from the Drogheda goalkeeper.
The U15 Boyne team will return to action soon, with the first round of the Cup set to be played by October 9th.
