Dear Parent,

The Department of Education would like to meet with parents/guardians of young people attending post-primary schools that teach through English to hear about their children’s experiences of learning Irish. The Department of Education is also meeting with groups of children and young people, principals and teachers.

The discussion with parents/guardians will help to identify ways to make the learning and use of Irish better for young people in post-primary schools. The discussion will also inform the development of a new two-year Action Plan for Irish which the Department will publish in 2025. Once published, the plan will bring about improvements that will support young people in learning Irish at school.

The Department intends to organise an online meeting with parents at 7pm on Wednesday 9 April to hear their views. The meeting will last up to one hour.

If you would like to participate in this meeting, please contact Pádraig Mac Fhlannchadha at  AGSMB@education.gov.ie using the e-mail subject heading Focus group – Irish in post-primary schools by 5.30pm this Friday 4 April.

On receiving your e-mail, a representative of the Department will contact you with the link for the meeting.

Kind regards

National Parents Council
