Boyne Community School triumphed in Leinster and won the Br. Hubert Cup

On Thursday, 23rd May, the final of the Br. Hubert 1st Year Boys Gaelic Football took place in Dunganny. Boyne Community School (Trim) battled with St. Ciarán’s Community School (Kells) to be crowned Leinster Champions.

The weather was favourable for both teams on the day and Dunganny was in excellent condition. Boyne C.S. settled quickly into the game and dictated the tempo early on, kicking the first 3 points. St. Ciaran’s C.S. were battling bravely and kicking their points over. The two teams traded points to leave Boyne C.S. 2 points up before Conor Fanning made two crucial saves to keep St. Ciarán’s goalless. Scott Williams scored the game’s opening goal from a placed kick to leave a score line of 1-5 to 0-3 at halftime in favour of Boyne C.S.

St. Ciarán’s C.S. faced an uphill battle with the second half underway.  Boyne C.S. continued to pull ahead, thanks to the influential performance of key players like George Golds, who was moved to centre-half back, and the help of a goal apiece from Cathal Byrne and Shane Govern. These goals, along with the impact from the bench with substitutes Rhys King, Mícheál Moran and Scott O’Toole making a huge contribution, helped to further cement Boyne’s dominance in the game.

However, St. Ciarán’s C.S. were not going down without a fight and managed to score a couple of points, followed by two quick-fire goals of their own, to leave just 6 points between the two teams. Coming into the game’s last quarter, Conor Fanning once again pulled off a crucial save to keep St. Ciarán’s at bay.

The Boyne lads responded well to the continuing pressure from St. Ciarán and answered with an additional two goals of their own from Shane Govern and Rhys King. After a highly entertaining and competitive match between the two sides, Boyne Community School was victorious with a final scoreline of 5-10 to 2-8.

Boyne Community School achieved this victory thanks to the dedicated efforts of Mr Brien, Mr Cullen, and Mr Duffy, who mentored the team this year.
